Which files can I upload?+
Images (JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, TIFF, GIF), PDF files, and Word .docx files. Older .doc files are not supported โ open and re-save as .docx first.
Why is a PDF sometimes instant and sometimes slow?+
A PDF made from a document already contains real text, so it is read straight out โ instantly and with perfect accuracy. A PDF made by scanning paper is just pictures of pages, so every page has to be run through OCR, which takes a few seconds each.
Does it read Telugu and other Indian scripts?+
Yes. Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia and Urdu are all supported, as well as English. Pick the right one before scanning โ the script matters.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?+
No. Reading and scanning happen entirely in your browser. Only if you press Translate is the extracted text sent to the free MyMemory translation service.
How do I get the best scan quality?+
Use a sharp, well-lit image where the text is straight and not skewed. Printed text reads far better than handwriting, and higher resolution helps a lot.
